DESCRIPTION

This Broome County Park has a pretty interesting history. It was formerly Innsbrook Ski Area! As a result there is a distinctive trail network up the hill reminiscent of it’s roots. The park is 466 acres of rustic natural area with a 6 acre pond. The park is located on both sides of Maxian Road for two very different experiences. Visit the south side for a more challenging hike up the hill or visit the north side for an easier flatter hike near the pond.

ACCESS

FROM THE NORTH:
Take I-81 South to Exit 4S (Rt. 7 South). Follow 363 South 1.6 miles under bridge and exit to right onto NY 434 to Vestal. Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena will be on your left while on the NY 434 exit ramp. Go .8 miles across bridge to Pennsylvania Avenue exit. Follow Pennsylvania Avenue4.6 miles to Maxian Road. Turn right on Maxian Road and go 1.1 miles to Aqua-Terra Wilderness Area.

FROM THE SOUTH:
Take I-81 North to Exit 4 S and follow the directions “From the North” above.

FROM THE WEST:
Take Rt. 17 East to I-81 South to Exit 4 S and follow directions “From the North”above.

FROM THE NORTHEAST:
Take I-88 West to I-81 South and follow the directions “From the North” above.

CHALLENGE – 5 miles

This challenge is one of the more strenuous ones, and calls for you to hike on both sides of Maxian Rd, the ‘aqua’ (water) and ‘terra’ (land) sides. Circumnavigate the pond on the northwest side of Maxian Road, and also climb to the top of the old ski slope on the southeast side of Maxian Rd.
