Binghamton University Nature Preserve

ADDRESS

BU Campus, Lot M, Vestal, NY 13850

DESCRIPTION

The BU Nature Preserve is 182 acres of woods, hills, pond and wetlands located behind the BU Campus. It features 14 diverse trails along slopes and hilltops, and through woods and meadows. One of the most popular routes takes you over a beautiful wooden bridge through the pond and marshlands. This is a great spot for wildlife viewing especially if you catch a glimpse of the beavers that call the pond home.

ACCESS

To reach the Nature Preserve, enter the campus from the Vestal Parkway and turn to the right at the circle.  Continue to head south, up to the top (far end) of Parking Lot M.  There is a kiosk at the entrance to the Nature Preserve, across the street from Lot M. NOTE: There is a parking fee weekdays. Parking is free from Friday at 4pm through Sunday.

CHALLENGE – 4 miles

This rugged challenge asks you to hike the perimeter of the preserve.  During this hike you will pass by two high points — the water tanks on the Anthill Trail along with the upper junction of the Field and Saddle Trails.
