DESCRIPTION
Constructed in 1942 to stem flooding in the valley, the lake is now a primary recreational asset. Hikers can walk along the dam between the access points behind Whitney Point High School and at the waterfront in Dorchester Park.
ACCESS
The entrance to Dorchester Park is on NY Rte 26, about a mile north of Whitney Point, NY. Park address is 5469 NY-26, Whitney Point, NY
CHALLENGE – 4 miles, out and back
This hike follows a walking path from the Dorchester Park beach, around the south end of the reservoir next to the dam, and over to the Keibel Road parking lot near the Whitney Point High School. Then follow the same path back.
